Renowned physicist, Freeman Dyson, has proposed some of the most compelling concepts for space explorations. These range from a theory of life's origins--the "double-origin hypothesis"--which posits two separate creatures at the beginning, one replicating and the other metabolizing. He also proposed the "Dyson Sphere", an energy collector on a planetary scale. In this final installation of his three-part interview, Dyson joins Planetary Society Chairman, Bruce Murray, and Executive Director, Louis Friedman, for an informal discussion about interstellar flight.

When biologists and computer scientists meet, their hybrid projects have produced intriguing models for evolution. A team of Michigan State and Caltech scientists report in Nature on their method of breeding computer code to mimic some features of evolutionary theory. Their findings are consistent with a mutation principle where 'one-step backward, two-steps forward' can advance towards a better result.
